The prompt

I'm preparing for a sales call and need a quick account brief.

Company to research: [PASTE COMPANY NAME HERE]
Their website (if I know it): [PASTE URL OR WRITE "look it up"]

Please:
1. Research this company using public web sources — their website, recent news, and anything useful from public business profiles.
2. If you have access to my CRM, check for existing account notes on this company. If CRM is not connected, skip this step and tell me "CRM not connected — using public research only."
3. Write a one-page call prep brief with these sections:
   - What they do (2–3 sentences, plain English)
   - Recent news or funding (last 6 months, if any)
   - Likely pain points for a company like theirs
   - 5 discovery questions I should ask on the call
   - Risks or red flags to watch for

Keep it scannable with bullet points. Under 400 words.
Do not make up facts — if you are unsure about something, say so.

Paste into Claude Desktop. Claude will use your connected apps: Web search (built into Claude), HubSpot or Salesforce (optional).

Expected outcome

A one-page call prep brief with what the company does, recent news, likely pain points, discovery questions, and risks — ready to review before your sales call.

Troubleshooting

Claude says it can't search the web

Cause

Web search may not be enabled on your plan, or the globe/search icon is turned off.

Solution

Turn on web search in the chat if you see a globe icon. If not available, open the company's website in your browser, copy the About page and any recent news, paste it into Claude, then run the prompt again saying "Use only the text I pasted."

The brief is too generic or sounds made up

Cause

Claude may not have found enough public info, or the company name is ambiguous (e.g. "Acme").

Solution

Add the full company name, website URL, and city/country. Say: "Only use verified public sources. Mark anything uncertain as unverified."

CRM data didn't show up

Cause

CRM is not connected, or there are no existing notes for this account.

Solution

Go to Settings → Connectors and confirm HubSpot or Salesforce shows Connected. If there are no CRM notes yet, that's normal — the public web brief is still useful. Say "Continue with public research only."

I can't find Connectors in Claude Desktop

Cause

You may be on the website instead of the desktop app, or need an update.

Solution

Use Claude Desktop from claude.ai/download (not the browser). Update to the latest version. Look for Settings → Connectors or Integrations.

The brief is too long for a quick pre-call scan

Cause

Default output exceeded what you need for a 60-second skim.

Solution

Reply: "Shorten to half a page. Lead with 3 bullets I must know before the call."
